Take a Shower or a Bath

Please make sure to take a shower or a bath with soap before entering your hot tub. This will get rid of any perspiration, natural oils, cosmetic products, and common skin bacteria. Make sure of removing lotions, deodorants, and creams that can reduce the effectiveness of the hot tub disinfectant and filter efficiency.

Limit Your Time at the Hot Tub

To prevent symptoms such us lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, and fainting, please limit the time that you spend in the hot tub to 15 to 20 minutes at a time. You can take a 15 minute break and then return to the water for another 15 to 20 minutes if you want to spend extra time in the water. If you desire to have longer periods of time inside the water without having to take breaks, you can lower the water’s temperature to 98.6 °F (37.0 °C).

Pregnant Women Should Limit to No More than 10 Minutes

Pregnant women should not spend more than 10 minutes in the hot tub and please make sure to always have your chest, arms, and head above the water. Also make sure to leave the water if at any point you start feeling uncomfortable.

Children Should Also Limit to No More than 10 Minutes

Children should also limit their time in a hot tub to no more than 10 minutes and in general follow the same rules as pregnant women.

Avoid Drug and Alcohol Use

Please make sure to avoid using alcohol or drugs while in a hot tub. Using these substances can increase your chances of feeling drowsy, dizzy, or nauseous. You also run the risk of drowning if you lose consciousness after consuming alcohol or drugs.

Accompany Children and Avoid Use Under 10 Years Old

Make sure to never leave children unaccompanied while in the hot tub and always limit their time to 10 minutes maximum with a temperature of no more than 98 °F (37 °C). Hot tubs are not recommended for children under the age of 10, since younger children are still not able to regulate the temperature in their bodies.

Keep Your Head Above the Water

Given the fact that hot tubs have powerful suctions, it is advised to keep your head above the water at all times, since your head can get caught. For that same reason, people with long hair should tie it up to avoid accidents.

Avoid Using Electrical Devices in/or Near Hot Tubs

It is paramount that you do not use any corded electrical device inside or near your hot tub. Limit the use of electrical devices to those that are battery-powered and place them in a table or surface far from the water. It is also important to avoid placing the hot tub near electrical outlets due to the high probability of electrocution when outlets get wet.
